1990, "Giornale" by Alessandro Suckert. (War diary of Curzio Malaparte's brother). Edited by Paolo Giacomel. Lit. 10.000.

The diary narrates the enthusiasm of the famous irredentists, the Italian propaganda to participate to the war, the first trench experiences in the Storo and Trentino territories and in the area north of the Garda Lake, the subsequent sufferings caused by the war, the fall of the initial enthusiasm, through to the understanding of the absurdity of it all. The diary ends in June 1916, when the author is wounded during the “Strafexpedition”.

1991, "Un Kaiserjäger d'Ampezzo" by Silvio Zardini Poliziòto. (Diary of the war in Galicia-Poland). Edited by Paolo Giacomel. A Cooperativa di Cortina edition. Lit. 25.000.

Diary of an Ampezzo soldier enrolled in the Austro-Hungarian army and sent to fight on the Russian front, in Galicia, present-day Poland. The diary narrates the adventure of the author and of his soldier companions, boarded on cattle trucks and sent out to the Habsburg empire border, 1.000 kilometres away from home. After the first battles, the loss of close friends and many other distresses, the initial enthusiasm created by the propaganda decreases, leaving space to the understanding of the absurdity of the war and to the hatred towards the politicians who wanted it.

The books synthetically narrates the history of Cortina d'Ampezzo and the facts connected to the War Museum and to the ideas and obstacles for its establishment.

Diary of a Neapolitan soldier, lance-corporal and then sergeant, narrating the facts occurred on the battle fields from the Isonzo river to Caporetto, from the Piave river to Monte Grappa and from the Friuli and Veneto towns to Albania.

Thorough study of Professor Paolo Giacomel about the Ampezzo population during the first year of the war, when the young soldiers were sent to the border of Russia-Galicia. It includes a collection of written testimonies like diaries, letters, cards and pictures, as well as episodes personally narrated by the elderly and the survivors who experienced  that tragic historical period.

War diary of a young reformed Ampezzo carpenter, whom exemption from service was revoked when Italy declared war to Austria. He had to defend the Ampezzo territory against the Italian troops during the first month of the war. As he became ill, he was moved from hospital to hospital, and successively sent to the Col di Lana trenches with the Standschutzen. On November 4th, day of the armistice between Italy and Austria, he died of Spanish flu in Brunico.

Volume no. 2 "1914 - 1919 Dramma di una famiglia Ampezzana" Civic Library of Cortina d'Ampezzo, by Paolo Giacomel. (3rd reprint in process). Lit. 15.000.

The book narrates the story of an Ampezzo family, overwhelmed by the tragedy of the war: the father and four sons were fighting on the front and the mother and one doughter were interned in Florence. Another son was wounded on the Russian front and interned in Tuscany, and one army chaplain son, prisoner of the Italian soldiers was successively interned and put in jail. They made it back to Cortina in April 1919. (Institutions, people, ideas and landscape deeply changed in five years of war).

1999, Volume no. 5, "Un Tirolese di lingua italiana". By Don Isidoro Alverà, 1915-1916. War and imprisonment diary, 1939.

Diary of an army chaplain from Ampezzo, imprisoned on the Col di Lana while he was bringing help to an Italian wounded soldier. Threatened of getting shot, he was moved from prison to prison until 1919. In 1939 he experienced the period during which the Ladin population had to choose between Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. He died in 1940, disappointed by another useless war.

Volume 6, "Dio fulmini i tiranni", war and exile diary by Luigi Michielli, from May 1915 to October 1917.

Story of a “Standschütze” from Ampezzo enrolled when he was 58 years old. After becoming ill during the first weeks of war, he was forced to live in the Pusteria valley because Cortina d'Ampezzo was occupied by the Italian army. He narrates the war according to his point of view, with daily war facts, the "Strafexpedition", the Russian revolution, the defeat of Caporetto and a deep longing to see his family and his native land.
